About Optic Notes
A Canadian eye care knowledge hub. We write about eyes, lenses, and vision in language that actually makes sense.
There is no shortage of eye health information online. The problem is that most of it reads like a medical textbook, or it is thinly disguised advertising. We wanted something different.
Optic Notes exists to fill a simple gap: clear, honest, well-researched articles about eye care for people who are not eye care professionals. The kind of information you wish your optometrist had time to explain during a 15-minute appointment.
What we cover
We write about the things people actually search for. Why your eyes feel dry after a long day. Whether blue light glasses are worth the money. How to read your glasses prescription. When your child should get their first eye exam. How to make the most of your optical insurance benefits in Alberta.
Every article is reviewed for accuracy by professionals with clinical experience in optometry. We do not publish anything we would not feel comfortable sharing with our own families.
What we believe
01
Clarity over complexity
If we cannot explain it simply, we have not understood it well enough. No jargon, no unnecessary medical terminology.
02
Honesty over hype
We will tell you when something is marketing nonsense. We will also tell you when the science is genuinely uncertain.
03
Practical over theoretical
Every article ends with something you can actually do. We are not here to impress you with how much we know.
Who is behind this
Optic Notes is written by a licensed optician based in Alberta, Canada. With years of experience fitting eyeglasses, contact lenses, and helping patients navigate their prescriptions, the content here comes from real clinical experience — not recycled internet advice.
Every article on this site stays within the scope of what a licensed optician can speak to: frames, lenses, fittings, measurements, products, and the questions patients bring to the counter every day. When a topic crosses into diagnosis or treatment, we say so clearly and defer to optometrists and ophthalmologists.
We are not a clinic and we are not selling anything on this site. When we mention products or services, it is because we genuinely think they are worth knowing about. When we cite medical information, we link to peer-reviewed sources — Health Canada, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and PubMed.
